    Really no need to pay for the extra high end fuel - most bikes and certainly Japanese stuff is actually designed to run on 87 octane (91RON) fuel with a min of 10% ethanol There isn't a UK only map where 98RON is going to give you oodles of extra power and extend the life of the bike by 50 years; it really is pointless Putting anything else in is simply a waste of your money - you're not protecting anything However, if it makes you happy then I can't imagine Shell shareholders will complain

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes 6 дней назад

      I do it as I've seen stories of fuel line degregation using E10 - The general feeling is it's fine for bikes 2011+ but older bikes can suffer. Esspecially if left in the systen for any period of time, Winter Months etc etc 😉

      They tend to go between £4k and £5k now, more for low mileage mint examples of course, but I was offered a near mint model today, 2003 lots of extras, £3.5! so if you look...... bargains are out there, and it's a hell of a bike at £3.5 😀

    Thank you very much for your very good demonstration of the Topdon BT100. However your Battery problem is likely due to the fact that your battery which has a manufactures CCA rating of only 330 CCA seem like a very low CCA rating for a battery for your RAV4. I would have thought you might have needed a battery with a rating of at least 500 CCA. I always recommend that a battery in a car that does short trips, needs to be fully charged regularly with a battery charger. As it does takes more time than most people realise to recharge a battery from the alternator. So using a car for very short trips will not always keep a battery in good condition.

    Agree 100% with your observations and thoughts on the 1200RS. As you know I bought a 1050RS instead with the chocolate gearbox. 3rd and 4th gears failed but it was eventually rebuilt by a Triumph dealer at great expense and is now fine, but like you I don't think I shall keep it. I'll sell it on start of next year having owned it for 4 years. Glad I owned one although it's not been a joyous experience that I hoped it would owing to the gearbox and in difference from the dealer Laguna I bought it from. As you say is it worth £10k of fun when you can probably get just as much fun on a bike half or a third of the cost? I have just as much fun riding my VFR800 6th gen which although only has 108bhp cost me a fraction of the price of my Speed Triple 1050RS at 148bhp and a lot lighter, but my VFR I can go touring on as I have a full set of Honda luggage for it. The VFR gearbox is slick and sweet, it handles great, is not a rock hard ride, it starts and stops every time and sounds sweet with Staintune exhausts. I love it. The other thing with the 1200RS, the one I rode as a demo for an hour or so, the engine only really came alive at or above 8k revs and then it flew but you would then be riding at license or life losing speeds on public roads so totally pointless really. It's moderately fast short shifting up through the box up to say 5-6k but then you are only using 50% of the power. The top end is where the power is on the 1200RS. To get the most out of it you really have to take it on track. Just wish they had given the 1200RS electronic suspension rather than the fugly 1200RR or indeed the 1050RS and redesigned the gearbox as well! Triumph make some baffling decisions imho much more so than other bike manufacturers. I think your comparison of it with a Street Triple 765RS is pretty spot on. The 1200RS I rode turned and dropped into corners so easily just like it's smaller cc brother Street Triple 765RS. It was hard to believe I was riding a 1200cc bike. The new 2024 ST 765 RS is very tempting but I cannot afford to drop that kind of money again on a new bike and then take the depreciation hit. No way. Have you had a BMW S1000R pass through your hands? That't a bike I really fancied before I got my Speed RS but the 2019 bike I rode suffered from severe vibes through the bars and foot pegs. I tried a SDR 1290 Gen 3 and that was awesome. Loved it, firm but comfortable suspension, great electronics package and TFT dash, fabulous engine, but it was just too bonkers fast for the roads. You'd either lose your license or life in the first morning. I was tempted by a Tuono 1100 Factory but didn't like the tiny TFT and lack of fuel gauge plus the guy at my local dealer selling them, won't name them this time, was a complete w anchor. So that was a non starter for me. I have considered Ducatis from time to time, Multistradas. I am sure they are great bikes, but the servicing costs terrify me. I have had my fingers burned in the past with Italian cars. Don't really want to repeat it with Italian bikes. Plus I am quite short and Multistradas seem quite tall to me. Also there isn't a Ducati dealer near me. So on reflection they are not really an option for me. So many bikes good bikes now. There aren't any real duds these days, just ones that perhaps don't match your own requirements. Thanks for your review. Sorry for the essay. ATB.

      Thanks for the comments Alex, I too comsidered the s1000R but as you say, the vibrations are an issue on the 1000cc BMW line up, including the XR. And similar to the RS it needs to be ridden hard to get the best from it, which isn't really the way I ride at almost 60. As to Ducati being an option, the servicing isn't really any worse than Triumph.BMW or Harley, the Desmo isn't cheap, but it's every 18k miles (or 5 Years) now.... and they are a huge amount of fun, with all the tech you could ever need! but can be ridden gently through towns when needed. Plus of course they look amazing, and give you a certain tingle when you do need to get on the power 😁But I'm currently on the hunt for a Yamaha MT10 for the channel 😉

    Have prices of these gone up? I’m seeing 05s for nearly £4k admittedly low ish miles, but they seem to be holding value or delusional sellers!

    I've just turned 60 & had mine for about a year. The only problem I have is getting a sore right wrist after a while, but that's probably more down to my riding style than the bike. I've wound the suspension settings right back & it's not too bad on reasonable roads, but once I get out on the 100km/h country roads west of here (I live in Brisbane, AU) it's very harsh. I'm going to take it to the guy who set up my Streetfighter V2 suspension & see if there's anything we can do without having to look at spring rates, valving, etc... Re: gear vs speed - I find on mine that at 60km/h (~40mph) 4th is the highest gear I want to be in & I generally don't pull 5th until 80km/h (~50mph) & 6th until 100km/h (~60mph). My experience with the quick shifter is the opposite of yours - I find it super smooth regardless of whether I'm just pootling around or whether it's under hard acceleration. In comparison the quick shifter on my Streetfighter V2 was horrible. The only time it was smooth was when you were WOT accelerating. DO NOT buy the Chinese flyscreen! I got one for mine & right from the start I was concerned about the amount of flex in the bracket. As it turned out I was right to worry because on a subsequent trip out west, the bracket snapped in half in the middle of nowhere on day 2 of a 3 day ride & the display & flyscreen flopped over onto the bars. Luckily I was able to secure it until we got to a service station & bought some duct tape to properly secure it. I contacted the supplier & was told I'd need to pay $50 for a replacement bracket, so instead I repaired the broken one & reinforced it with metal plates - which worked really well until last weekend where it snapped again in a different place! I'm now going to order the genuine Triumph kit. At least if that one breaks I should be able to get some warranty support...

    Agree that the Multistrada is probably THE 'unicorn bike'. I have a 1200s and it does everything brilliantly well. It's fast, cool, looks awesome AND is all-day comfortable. The only problem with the Multistrada is...Where do you go from there?! I had a Tiger 800 before, and when I swapped it for the Multi, it was like stepping off Ryanair and climbing aboard Concord. I've added a custom Sportster Forty Eight to the stable as it has more character than anything I've ever ridden and looks badass. Nowhere near as versatile as the Multi though.

      I returned mine. Two up, the number plate rubbed on the back wheel. The ‘Lucas tail light’ was not bright at all (also the brake light!!) I was astonished at the improvement when I re installed the original!! I was concerned about the possibility of being rear ended in less that perfect visibility (this alone was enough to return the kit). I also found that the bullet indicators were not bright enough either - especially at the front when competing with the headlight. All this is just down to cheap/poor components and design. I would expect the more expensive Motone tail light and indicators to be of much higher quality (but of course they are 3 times the price!)

    Thanks for the review, its good to hear a broad spread of reviews as everyone is different. I'm 57 & have a 22 Tuono V4 non Factory & Speed Triple 1200RR. Loving both & extended the the warranty on both. When I get board I might convert the 1200RR to RS and have the electronic suspension without the harshness of the original RS. The quick shifter on the RR is seamless, even at 30mph.

    Love mine. I’m 60, 5’8” and find it super comfy and can and do ride it all day, especially with the cruise control allowing you to relax every now and then. My suspension was really stiff when I bought it but a five minute tweak to the Triumph manuals ‘comfort’ settings makes everything much more manageable
